Peter & Paul Snowden are confident Defcon has taken plenty of benefit from his time in the paddock and have included the colt in 2016 McNeil Stakes nominations.

Debuting to racing for second in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) in January, Defcon progressed to second in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) before taking out the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes (1200m) in Canberra on March 6th.

Having gotten too far back before running thirteenth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on March 19th, the son of Choisir is a proven first-up performer and has trialled well leading into the McNeil Stakes.

Godolphin are spoiled for choice with the number of talented three-year-olds they currently have in work, and trainer John O’Shea has included interesting prospect Pyx Chamber in 2016 McNeil Stakes nominations

Set for minor races through the autumn season, Pyx Chamber charged home for success in the Ladbrokes Australia Handicap (1300m) on April 9th before making a commendable transition to black type company in the Listed Anzac Stakes (1400m) on April 25th.

Having trialled well in the lead-up to his spring return, the Street Cry colt appears well placed in the McNeil Stakes first-up.

David Hayes & Tom Dabernig are set to launch a multi-pronged attack in the three-year-old feature after including all of Blue Tycoon, Highland Beat and Seaburge in McNeil Stakes nominations.

Blue Tycoon is yet to contest a black type race, but carries a positive record of two wins and a close second into the McNeil Stakes.

Returning to the paddock after finishing second in the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup (1200m) on April 30th, Highland Beat resumed a fortnight ago for second in the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m).

Winner of the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) in only his third competitive start on March 12th, the Sebring colt returned to the paddock after running a credible sixth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

The 2016 McNeil Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday (August 24th).
